It is every musician's goal to create his or her own individual sound. Equipment plays a big part in that process.  You
don't necessarily need expensive gear to accomplish that. Charlie Parker played on different horns all the time (it is
said that he even did some performances on a plastic saxophone), yet he still maintained his sound and technique.
Your individual sound (for reed players) actually starts with the mouthpiece. A mouthpiece can make an instrument
sound mellow and dark, or  loud and bright. Then, you must find the right reed size and cut that will work best with
your mouthpiece. The ligature plays a minor part in the process by changing the way that the reed vibrates And the
final step in creating your own individual sound is finding the right instrument for you.
